Film Opening: Introduction

Our second media project is to create a film opening following one of these three briefs:
  • Brief 1: Create a film opening for a Sci-Fi film, targeted at a mature audience.
  • Brief  2: Create a film opening for a Post Apocalyptic film.
  • Brief 3: Create a Psychological Thriller which is targeted at a female audience.
The Brief that Bradley, Jack, Chris and I chose was The Post-Apocalyptic brief. As we live in an area full of abandoned industry, quarries and grimy city-scapes, it seemed like a manageable and more flexible stimulus to expand on. Working on a sci-fi film was debated, though targeting it at a mature audience - as well as finding appropriate (And no doubt, expensive) sets and costumes didn't seem appropriate on the miniscule budget we had.
I myself would have loved to explore the psychological thriller. Unfortunately, I'm the only girl in the group, and I was substantially out-voted. All the same, Psychological suspense can be incorporated into a post-apocalyptic film opening. For example, the empty street scenes in 28 Days Later and I am Legend pose some uncomfortable scenarios, and draw the audience in. Why are they wandering about the wasteland? What's their story?
