Examining Film Openings | Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Romero's classic zombie flick is reinvented: The plot follows A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman, and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, as they take refuge in shopping mall.

The lighting is quite warm due to the amount of blood used in each clips, but coincidentally, the sterility of some of the clips being filmed on staticy cameras makes the film seem more modern, as opposed to some of the more classic horror movies that Romero's graced us with.

There are scenes in temples also clips of rioters, so a broad variety of props are used such as camera equipment and microphones, and riot gear used by the military.
Sound

Titles are Brick red, bold and occasionally fade into blood.

The sound is quite jitty due to the shifting of clips which makes the viewer uneasy, though "The man comes around" perfomed by Johnny Cash creates a juxtaposition for the violence the viewer sees; the country genre is mellow and easy, but the theme of his song actually ties in well with the movie's post-apocalyptic genre.
