Storyboarding & Shots
![]() |
Our initial storyboard was not focused on the story, as mentioned in the previous blog. We decided which shots we wished to include, and descide whereabouts we wanted the match on action.

Here we have an over the shoulder shot from inside the building. The tree, the outline of the window and Jack's head act as a frame for the shot - and still, Chris is in mid shot so it's clear hat the story still focuses on him, not the faceless person in the foreground.

There were a few extreme close ups in the middle of the video to show some tension and also focus the audience on the subject: The teddy. It also helped convey the relationship that Jack had with the teddy. It was a cheesy technique, but it aided in getting us used to using the camera and the editing software on the computers.

The low angle in contrast with the high angle makes Chris seem superior and more imposing. Again, it contradicts the initial set up of the film where Jack was the one with power.

The Script
Chris: No, no...I’m just speculating. So. Why did you call me back? Why not call the police?
Jack: [Clearly agitated] Don’t say a word. Not about any of this. Any of it. I know this is sport to you. But you need to stop. Just stop. Give me back the--
Chris: Why, exactly? Are you scared of what I’ve found out - or what they will?
Jack: Alright. You win.
Chris: [Throws over the rucksack/suitcase/whatever, with the teddy bear inside] That's all I wanted to hear.
Our Preliminary Task
On the 20th of September, we were given our brief for the preliminary task of our first film - we had to create a short film which had to include:
- A variety of shots
- Dialog
- Sound effects
- Match-on action
First of all, we (By we, I mean Bradley, Chris and Jack) had to create an initial plot and then develop a script.
Our plot was - I'll admit - vague, but it gave us more room for creativity and to let things flow.
The subject of the film was that a criminal [Chris] had stolen a very influential man's [Jack] teddy bear. Bradley and I were the Camera crew. We focused on finding locations and collecting sound effects with the microphone immediately after we'd discussed the film.
